Why does he always say "deshi" after everything he says in the manga (maybe in the series, too, i can't remember)? What does that mean?
I read that means student/disciple but that just doesn't make sense to me why he would say it at the end of every sentence. Anyone care to explain?

deshi sentence ending for anime and manga characters is pretty much as other familiar ending "gozaru/degozaru" (Kenshin) "no da" (Chichiri) "nya~" (various girls esp cat girls) "dattebayo" (naruto)

These are simply sentence enders, majority of the time they do not have a meaning of their own as they are just sentence enders in Japanese. These are often used to give characters more personality. As they originated on paper in manga, a way to characterize characters speech is to change how they speak, such as adding sentence enders.

Alec says deshi as a way to make the character unique, most likely also because he was from China, and it's a way to designate him as a different speaker also.

deshi in a sentence (other then the ending) as you noticed means student or desiple, but at the end it's just a formal or character like trait way of ending a sentence in Japanese.

It's a variant of the Japanese verb "desu".

Like it already been said, it was used by the writers to give the character a special way of talking, to give it a characteristic of its own.

Cream the Rabbit from the Sonic the Hedgehog series regulary use "desu", while Vanilla her mother regulary use "desumasu".

I think that Mikuru from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi also regulary use "desu" like Cream, for the same reason, to signify the cuteness of both characters.

Then there's the more 'unique' type, like Dejiko and her "nyo" from DiGiCharat, since it sounded like "nya" and she is a cat.
