Listen to me, when someone doesnt have God in their life then life will be miserable. I am not saying that my life is great, Im rich, have everything I want and never go a day without being happy. If I did I would be lying. However, with God in my life I don't deal with things by myself. God is there to comfort me, to guide me. My past is not peachy clean, but God forgives me, I forgive me, and most importantly I forgive those who hurt me. The sin I committed I have repented of them, as a Christian, I made and change of heart. Everyday I struggle with temptation of sin, but since I am a Christian I know I have the Helper to guide me, the Holy Spirit. Listen, I am not trying to preached to you, just trying to relate. Trying to show you that Jesus is the way. This world is temporary and everything in it. When Jesus returns he will return for those who have obeyed him and the will of God. Let Christ in you life. To get closer to God
Hear - Romans 10:17
Believe - Mark 16:16
Repent - Luke 13:5
Confess - Romans 10:9
Be Baptized - Acts 2:38

Reading scripture helps our mind to think more about God. To get closet to God, try applying the scripture to your life (in other words, do what the scriptures tell you to do).

yes...knowing his ways and following his plan makes life much better and gives you a deeper understanding and appreciation of life

faith comes by hearing and hear by the word of god.
