Yes. All they need is a current photo ID.

Never heard of that. My son just got a replacement and he had to go to the Social Security Office with 2 forms of ID in order to apply for it. He took his birth certificate and Driver's License and in 2 weeks they mailed him his new card.

Yes, all you need is a current photo ID and your birth certificate so you can prove your identity. and they'll be able to match you up in the system. They'll provide you with a receipt that serves as your temporary one until your new card comes in the mail. You're limited to a certain number of free replacements in your lifetime until you have to start paying for them.

EDIT: No, a new replacement card does not change your SSN. You can only change your SSN through an extremely difficult process, to demonstrate that your present one is causing major issues within your life (ID theft, etc.)

They should provide u with the new card. U have to fill out a form and usually, if you write ur social security number on the form, they will be okay just accepting the dl.

Well, you have to be able to prove you are who you say you are. If the Drivers license is currently valid, then it works to get you one.

When I went, I had to get my name changed on my card from my single name to my married name. I had to have my DL and my marriage certificate. They ask you a series of questions, and complete a form on the computer, and then it takes 2 to 8 weeks to get your new card.

You may have to have your birth certificate now to get one (due to the new requirements for DL's), but that would be all. If you can prove you are who you say you are, then you are fine.

Getting a new Social Security card will mean that your number will be changed.
