One simple word:

M O N E Y

The more money one has, the more of a voice they get. THAT is the American way. And as long as there is money to be gotten by listening to the rich, and ignoring the majority, it will continue.

To stop it - make it a non-factor. Make it so no private contributions can go to politicians, and make it so that no candidate can receive donations from corporations, and the donations can only be in the amount of $100.00 or less from a NAME, not a company. And make it so that no gifts can go to politicians in "influence" their votes, and so on.

Basically, it would mean upsetting the entire process. It needs to be done, but it won't be done in our lifetime, I'm afraid.

Through apathy, greed, and being unaware of bills being passed through our governmental agencies, you and I are looking after the "little guy" via taxation through Federal and state programs that have endorsed food stamps, reduced or no interest home loans for those who fall below the "poverty line", free or reduced-price lunches for public school children who are below a specified income, (and you would be surpised how much a family can make to receive this benefit, free medical care to illegal immigrants, printing of driver's license manuals and tests in a foreign language, free tuition to state universities and colleges for non-English-speaking students.

I think the "little guy" has it pretty good in America. The "middle guy" is the one sufferring; and, eventually, America will not have a "middle guy". There will be two classes: Rich or poor.
