I have round coin with round hole in center. side one has a single flower with leaves at top and a double flower with leaves at bottom. Asian writing along sides. side two has 50 at top and 49 at bottom with asian writing each side. Is this a coin, token, or a charm? It is the size of a nickel.

Definitely a Japan 50 yen coin, the type in circulation from 1967 until present. The coin is made of an alloy of copper-nickel, the 50 represents the denomination, the 49 is the Japanese date for Showa era(equivalent to AD 1974), and the flowers depicted are chrysanthemums. The top row characters reads "Nihon Koku", meaning "The country of Japan", while the bottom row reads "Go-ju En", meaning 50 yen. The characters on the reverse read "Showa 49 Nen", which translates to Year 49 of the Showa Era. As for the value, it's worth the face of 50 yen in circulated conditions, which is about 40 cents.
