For the past week, my 6 weeks old son has been crying every time he eats during the day, he would be just screaming and screaming and won't eat more then 1 oz. at the time, and then usually vomit. He has no fever and he doesn't do it at night (he eats every three hours with no problem at night) so I don't think he is sick. What is wrong with him?

I am planning on calling his doctor tomorrow, but I guess if it was serious, he would be doing it at night as well? He is still getting weight, because he eats 4 oz. every three hours at night and doesn't throw up. So why is he so fussy during the day?

I would agree with the person who said that he probably has reflux. All babies have some degree of reflux when they are really young, but you do want to check out whether he has a milk allergy. If he has an allergy and you are breastfeeding, you can cut dairy out of your diet and if he is formula fed, he can switch to a non-milk based formula. If it is not an allergy and he is formula fed, I have heard that Good Start formula is very gentle on the tummy. In addition, you may want to get a book or a video on infant massage and do the massages that are specifically for gas. I did those with my now 9 month old at that age and we never had a problem with gas or constipation when I did them. If you live in an area with a good Infant and Toddler program, you can call them and they may be able to give you the names of professionals who are trained in Infant Massage. Good luck, I am sure whatever it is will resolve and your little one will return to his happy self.

He might be lactose intolerant. At night, he could just be so exhausted that he keeps eating and then feels the effects of being sick when he's awake all day. Does he cry when he's not eating, too? If so, then he is probably colicky. There is no cure for colic--it goes away on its own. I know someone who took their baby to a child chiropractor and the baby was adjusted and the colic instantly went away. I'd check and make sure that it's not his formula or breast milk that makes him irritable. I'd definitely call the doctor tomorrow like you have planned to.

That would depend on if your breastfeeding or formula. Breast milk is more filling and he may be a light eater in the day. Or he may be more gasy and needs alittle more burping than usual. The spit up is normal but the screaming may be from a discomfort like gas or indegestion. If you need any more help pick up the book "What to expect the first year", that will give you all the need to know info on this, I have it and it's a great guide to stuff just like this. Best of luck, peace

It sounds like he has a gassy tummy and the added food causes problems. My son did this and he ate better at night as well. I would try mylocon drops to see if that helps, or better yet just go to the doctor. If your baby is having proper bowl movements and has at least seven wet diapers a day or a really loaded down few diapers then everything in the digestive area is probably fine just gasy.

id say gas or maybe its the formula it self.
try some gas drops a good burping before and aftereating - no matter what pat pat pat and then ck with the md he maybe has a*** sensitivity to something in the milk*** he may need something milder like a soy protein milk or even to switch brades he may be unsatisfied or even not like the taste if there has been achange in the formualtion ck you labels to make sure there aren't out of date to it could be spoiled or on a recall list etc

***** and at 6 wks the have a major growth spurt this could as be the reason for his cryin he should have a ck up at 8 wks but scheule it sooner if nothing works up

It sounds like he could have thrush, which you could also have if your nipple are sore. This causes pain when babies nurse. Take him to the doctor ASAP and/or contact a lactation consultant ASAP. He may just be so hungry by night time that he nurses no matter what. If his tounge is white and he has some white dots on the insides of his mouth and lips then it is definitely thrush - he would need to be put on medication or you can use Gentian Violet sparingly. My baby had chronic thrush over 9x.

The best thing you can do is get in to the doctor's or emergency to find out from a professional what could be causing this problem.Yes it is serious now b/c your babe is trying to let you know that something is upsetting him.So get him checked out i mean it's just good to be sure especially when he's so young. It is good he is not fever or not eating at all so I'm sure it's nothing to severe so you would be better off getting it checked out now.

Take him to the pediatrician to rule out anything serious. If it is colic ask your doctor about probiotics I saw a news story about it helping babies with colic. But don't give your baby anything without asking your doctor first. Also if you have a rocking chair, rocking a baby with colic often helps. I used infant massage and that works well also. Definitely go see the doctor.

He may be having gas or he might have infant reflux. Are you burping him well enough after he eats? You may want to just feed him small amounts at a time and burp him very well inbetween the feedings.

I would consult your doctor, though.

Good luck

The only time my daughter has pitched a fit when eating was when she was constipated. Regardless, call the pediatrician in the morning. He might have reflux....my friends baby wasnt diagnosed until he was 2 months old....or might need a different formula.
