That's a tough one. See, the only reason us humans are capable of asking ourselves questions like these is because we have a so-called conscience. Some people think consciousness defines us as spiritual beigns, but the truth is consciousness is an illution, caused by evolution. Our brain is capable of abstract thought, and allows us to ponder on these matters. As to your question, directly, it's hard to say. What's better than life? "Better" is a term created by humans, with no real universal value, I believe. Death could be better than life, because there is nothing in death. Consciousness ceases to exist, meaning you won't worry about these matters in once you are dead.
