I'm planning to buy a new mobo/processor.

Which one should i get?
(1) Core 2 Duo - 1.80GHz
(2) Pentium D - 3.20 GHz

And Why? (since I don't know which one is better)

With the Core 2 Duo, you're getting a 64-bit processor that runs at a total of 3.6GHz. Obviously, it's better than the 32-bit 3.2GHz CPU.

Core2 Duo.

It doesn't need to be as fast as the Pentium D because it processes considerably more data in the same clock cycle.

Analogy :
You have 5000 pizzas to deliver to a huge party across town.

You can use a Honda Civic that goes 120mph
or ...
a flatbed truck that goes 40mph ....
Which one do you think will do the job faster ?

Get my point ?
The internal clock speed of the CPU is not "the" determining factor in performance.

Also .. yes being 64 bit & having much more cache memory is an added asset for the Core2Duo.

*** EDIT : fyi for some people ... the Pentium D is also a dual core CPU .... ***

Core 2 Duo's are the fastest processors on the market today. You shouldn't even consider any Pentium anymore unless you're on a budget (and if you're on a budget, then you should go with AMD's X2 line instead).

actually a dual core processor is way faster than a Pentium D as a dula core has 2 layers of incoming and outgoing processing. So it doesnt matter if is has only 1.8ghz. Its on a 64bit and runs way faster than a Pentium D 3.2ghz.

Core 2 Duo. A dual core is always far better than a single.

dual core processors are about 40% - 50% faster than the equivalent pentium so the duel core at 1.8Ghz is still slower then the Pentium 3.2Ghz
