Yes you can! you just need to buy a network router - only cost you a penny. then, ask for a reliable and technical friend to help you out configure the router to connect to both of your computer.
if you are also interested you can also buy a wireless USB LAN type attached to your computer and buy a wireless router for you to have a wireless internet all over your place. you can use rather your laptop and desktop at a time.

Hi. Just a router hub, not expensive, and you may want it to be wireless for convenience. This connects the computers. You also need a modem to connect the system to the internet

if you have a cable connection (DSL) , then you need to buy a hub and some LAN cable to connect your PCs to the hub... connect the cable line of the internet to the hub then from the hub use the LAN cable to give internet connection to your PC.. but if you have wireless connection , then you need to buy a wireless router.. then just configure the wireless settings... your PC should be wireless ready...

Yes, you'll need a router. I recommend going to an electronics store such as Best Buy and they'll show you exactly what you need and if you pay they'll install everything for you.

I recommend wireless so that no cables need to be used to connect everything together.

You WILL need a broadband connection. Routers don't work well with a dial-up connection.
