This was a 2002 movie entitled John Q., where Denzel Washington played the role of John Quincy Archibald. He's a father whose insurance won't cover his son's heart transplant. So he became so desperate that he holds the entire hospital hostage and even planned to kill himself in order to donate his own heart to the boy.
This film is a total tear jerker! And of course Denzel Washington displayed his superb acting skills.
