Put a carbed 350 in it, take out the computer. The only wiring you are going to need is the ignition wire for the distributor, ones for the starter and alternater. Or, if you want to keep the computer you can cut and splice the wiring harness to make it work with the new motor. You will also have to get the computer reworked to fire all 8 cylinders. The conversion kit comes with headers, motor mounts, radiator for $400 and jegs sells an exhaust kit for it for pretty cheap. The only thing I had to do to mine was beat the fire wall in a little so I could get the exhaust on and cut the core support and move the radiator inside of it. A stock smallblock will not get you in the 12 second range tho. My camaro with a 388 stroker only runs 12.3 and it weighs less than an s10.

You can comfortably fit any small block chevy (305 5.0, 350 5.7, 383 stroker, 400, or 416 dart) into any s-10, but the headers to put on them are going to run you around $600 unless you want to slaughter the firewall. Just need to change the engine mounts, turn the engine into a carburator and take out the computer and run a complete mecanical setup with an electrical fuel pump.

Any Small Block Chevy engine would fit, keep in mind that the computer and wiring harness would also have to be changed for the 8 cylinder its not always an easy swap but can be done.
