I cut my foot, directly below my big toe. It bleed for 2 or 3 minutes and was deep enough to see the tissue below. It heeled over but now I can poke the top half of my big toe with a needle and it doesn't even hurt as it should. I feel it a little but not to the point where it hurts just tingles. The 1 inch scar i have still hurts nearly a year later

Years ago, I cut the fleshy part under my second to baby toe right where it connects to the foot. It was much like you explain - tissue showing and bleeding heavily for quite a few minutes - more like 5-10 actually.

I didn't get stitches because I was chicken. But it did heal on its own and I did have a slight numbness afterwards for quite a few months - can't remember exactly how long. It's ok now though decades later.

When both of us had the accident, we probably cut through some of the nerve. If it's not too bad it will heal itself, but it sounds like yours didn't. It's not anything to worry about though.

However, it sounds odd that your scar still hurts after a year. I'd certainly ask the doc about it, but it's probably nothing either. Maybe it's over sensitive now that you've damaged it and the nerves haven't healed over properly.

I imagine that in time it will be okay. But ask your doc next time you go.

Hope this helps.

Sylvia

You probably damaged a nerve leading to the skin. Other than the numbness this should not be a problem since the toe will still move OK. The pain is probably from the scar tissue. Try to wear better shoes next time.

Most likely some nerve damage. As long as it doesnt hurt too bad when you're not poking it, it doesnt sound like that big of a deal. If you are worried about permantent damage, you could see a Dr. At least it was just your toe, you can look at it that way. :)

I know someone that slit his wrists. Same problem. ER doc called it localized nerve damage.
Better go get that checked out.
Good luck to you.
