Organic waste gives off heat as it composts, and you could use that to drive a turbine (by enclosing it and letting the pressure of the expanding air drive it) or hook up a thermocouple to generate heat.
Rotting organic waste also produces methane, which you can burn to produce electricity - usually they use the fire to turn water into steam, and run a generator from the steam. You could also dry out the waste and burn it directly.

You have two questions here, because a certain category of waste can be processed in a type process different from another category. As for your trash, the non-burnables can be sorted out such as metal, tin cans, bottles, dirt, and the rest burnt in a furnace that generates steam to drive turbines, etc.

the place do you reside certainly? only curious, that it sounds to be huge scale open burning. only risky too the well being. you choose intense-tech waste incineration plant. certainly, - you burn the waste in a closed furnace, - the nice and cozy gasoline touches boiler pipes on the furnace's partitions, wherein particular-taken care of water is flowing, - the water evaporates starting to be to be steam, - the steam flows to and rotates a steam turbine, - the turbine is coupled with an electric powered generator, - the generator produce electricity, - the electricity is transferred to alter abode and the families by using transmission lines.
