There will be no winners. The U.S. will slowly back out. She will never admit defeat. Iraq will take over her own security and other important issues. The Iraqi work force will wind up rebuilding their own country. Halliburton will go out of business. The U.S. will finally take care of the needs of her returning veterans, both physically and mentally. And under a new and welcome government, the U.S. , while maintaining its super power status, will share that distinction with China and Russia.
(One is not constrained to defining where the finish line is. It is more a matter of saving face. And there are a plethora of ways to 'save face'. The U.S. will be forced to 'back out'.)

With the current military policy? They'll be no winning. A stalemate would be the best we could hope for and we'll be in Iraq doing the same thing for the next 10 years. If you want a win then here's what would have to be done.
1) Institute the draft again.
2) Send in 500,000 well armed, well supplied, well supported US troops. Even doing this it could take several years, several hundred billions of dollars, and several thousand US soldiers lives.

We are, for removing the former leadership. If you weren't listening when this all started, then shame on you. You're supposed to look before you leap. This was a war. What did you expect to happen? Our troops to be greeted like the Americans storming through France in WWII, with adoring flag waving, kisses from pretty girls, and kids singing your praises? All we did was untether the two rivals to square off with one another, and this is going to take a cubic buttload of time to fix, if the neighbors don't help out, so we can leave, like they want us to.

we win in iraq when the pelosi ites get the xxxx out of the way and allow people who understand working with al qaeda to continue talks with iran and syria as they are now. these talks will driectly lead to the insurgents leaving and have already resulted in a reduction of violence thats well publicized. in the long run there is a savings vis a vi building our border defenses to counter al qaeda when they come here after cut and run so that doesnt apply. the troops obviously come from here and if the pelosi ites get out of the way and stop interfereing they can do their job and come home.

We cannot "win" in Iraq, any more than we can "lose" in Iraq.
We're the only ones setting our agenda there, and the only ones defining the finishing line. So, we can declare victory at any time... simply by defining where the finishing line is.

Not until Washington learns the lessons of Vietnam and lets the generals on the ground fight a war and I mean a war, not a politically correct police action.
