my wife and i were having a discussion about the new james bond move and she claims that james bond is a code name for 00 agents while i think that he is a person and the movies are all of his different missions. who is correct or is there a third option?

It's not a code name for 00 agents as there have been other 00 agents with different names. For example, in GoldenEye, 006's name is Alec Trevelyan. Also there was a double-oh in The Man with the Golden Gun who had a name (Bill Fairbanks maybe?).

James Bond is the actual character. Each 00 is an individual. It was once speculated that each 00 has their own name. So every 007 in history and the future would be Bond. Apparently this is not the case. He is a real guy named Jimbo. Or as real as the movies get anyway.

it's a code name. it's not a person, it's different people. james bond has been around forever. there would be no chance of it bein the same person cause than james bond would be in his 50's or 60's now. its the same code name but, for different people. thats y in the new film, they say am not sure if ur ready to be a 00 agent or the new bond. and the film says, i heard life acception for bonds r quite low. if a bond dies or quiets, they get a new bond. the person whos code name is james bond actually has another name, their real name. ITS NOT THE SAME PERSON!!!!

I would have to agree with you here. His name is James. 007 is his code name. All of the different movies are the same man in different missions. In Casino Royale, which is chronologically the first, his name is Bond before he kills the two guys in the beginning. These two kills are the ones he needed to be promoted to 007.

James Bond was the name Ian Fleming gave him in his books, which spawned the movies. the "00"+# is the code name. 006 was Alec is the movie "goldeneye" It's just MI6's way to designate a spy. He is a Commander in Her Majesty's Royal Navy.
