How about a card signed by her class--perhaps everyone can write a favourite quote either from the teacher or from some lit she taught--accompanied with a Gift of Hope (from Plan--an NGO, non-religious child development org.) to spread literacy to those who need it most? Any good teacher would be really moved by that, and if she's moving, the last thing she needs is another stupid ornament to pack and haul away. The card will be something personal to remember her class by and the Literacy donation/gift will be appreciated by any good English teacher. It's super-easy to buy these online, and they mail you a gift card really quickly.

If you are not from Canada, I'm sure Plan has the same program for the States (or wherever--link below).

A gift that would be good is a group picture of the whole class put in a picture frame. With a card saying how good she teaches, along with the signatures of each classmate.

STARBUCKS gift card is what I want and LOVE as gifts from my students.
I'm still trying to use all of the Starbucks cards I got from Christmas, and my birthday is this weekend, which means more favorite student props on the way.
Good Luck....

The best gift for that kind of situation is a gift card to a restaurant (even better if you know her favorite rest!) ~~OR~~ Since she teaches English perhaps a gift card to Barnes and Noble/Walden Books/etc...........

A gift certificate would be good, or at certain store you can get things personalized with their name or intials. If she is sentimental, you could always get her a fancy leatherbound scrap book and start it with a few pictures and notes from your class.

gift certificates are the best gifts that i get from my students. resturants, shopping, book stores, movies, etc.
that way she can use it wherever, whenever.
