Verticle leaping is mostly based in the calves. Do a lot of squats to increase muscle. You should also focus on quads and even your back (so that you can create better spring). However, don't overdo it. If you have too much muscle in your lower body, it can weigh you down.

In order to jump higher you need to work on your legs. The best advice I can give you as a 6'2" junior in high school (who can dunk) is this:

1). You need to work on your legs. You can start by doing simple exercises, such as calf raises, squats, power cleans, and just jump.

2). You definitely need to go to the weight room and do leg presses. Now if you cannot leg press more than 100 lbs. on each leg you legs are week. (I can do 300 per leg) I suggest that you start light like at 100 lb and over time increase the weight on your legs. I also suggest that you do these in sets of 10-15. Then rest 2 minutes between sets.

3). You can also wear leg weights (5-10 lb) when you workout or play basketball. You can even wear then when walking around. After walking around in them, when you play basketball you may realize that you are more explosive and can jump higher.

4). If all else fails you may be too heavy, and may need to lose weight. (This is a suggestion because I do not know your weight etc.)

Do calf raises, squats, power cleans, and just jump. Jump up and down, try to get higher. You will see improvement if you jump a lot.

You must have a weak legs. hit the weight room and work on your legs. Go running, jogging, and ride bikes. That would all improve you legs muscle and then continue jumping and you will see your ups improve.
