Find someone else with a need and help them. When you are thinking about something that upsets you, you are thinking about you.
This will give you a chance to get your problems in perspective too. See if there's a soup kitchen in your area that needs help, or an elderly person that needs a room painted.

The Roots of Obsession
These synthetic obsessions--mysteriously repetitive thoughts that bother people for no apparent reason--must come from somewhere. What causes them and how can they be stopped? Simply put, these sorts of obsessive thoughts often grow directly out of efforts to suppress them.
Do NOT try to suppress the thought. Suppressing the thought actually ends up amplifying it.
Force yourself to think about the thought and you will get bored of it and it will go away.
As soon as you can, face the thought, try to figure out where it came from and deal with it openly.
"an unwelcome thought will go away only when you welcome it back."
Read my source for the full article about making obsessive thoughts go away:
Wegner, Daniel M: Try not to think of a white bear… - controlling obsessive thoughts. Psychology Today, June, 1989 .

Childish things. Things that you enjoyed as a child. I keep legos and my house because reverting back to the most primal sattisfactions for the "id" within you, helps.

You can't.
People have tried alcohol, drugs, cheap women. Nothing seems to work.
You need to face the issue -- confront the person or your fear. It's the only solution in the long run.
Good luck.

Sorry, I wish I knew. Been trying to figure that one out myself. BUT, I just got a book titled "The Secret"-or try borrowing it from the library...it's a good read to help change how you think about things/situations in your life.

I bet you have observed that the more you try to make it leave your mind, the more it stays in your mind. So....
accept whatever this is, totally. Then it will leave because it won't matter if it stays.
