Ok I dont know how old my hamster really is but he is a dwarf campbell russian hamster and he is like 2 1/2 inches. i had him for a month and 2 weeks. and i just got him a wheel i week ago to put in his cage. the first day hje didnt know what it was but now he has the hang of it. what i wanted to ask is why my hamster runs on it like at 11pm-8am[which is when i wake up to go to school, i see him getting ready to go to sleep and is usally asleep by the time i leave 8:25]. and at the day he is like so inactive all he does is sleep drink and eat. and usually at 10:30pm+ he is very active. he runs on his wheel and stops for some reason evry like 20 turns, and then starts again is this normal? also i know hamsters are nocturnal but why is he so lazy at day. usually he wakes up when i open his cage and he walks on my hand[and is very docile so he walks slowly on my hands being calm and not acting all hyped like he does at night so yeah is this normal for my hamster to be acting the way he is?

Also I have a wired cage for him. And since he is very active at night ive seen him climb the cage. which scares me because he might fall down hard on his bedding, yes i think it would still hurt. so how do i stop him from climbing up the cage?lol. he only does it a like myabe once or twice. so im not really concerned. but what do you think?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your hamster. The reason he stops every-so-many turns is because he does need to catch his breath. It is perfectly normal for him to do that. He walks slowly onto your hand during the day because he is sleepy, it's like when you get woken up extra early you move slower because you still want to sleep.

Also don't worry about him hurting himself on his bedding. My hamster wouldn't be feeling well if he didn't attempt to climb from one side of his cage back, down and then again at least four times (with falling). He is just being a silly little hamster.

I got a teddy bear hamster...Ive had him for about 5 months...My hamster is the same way...he gets up and runs in his tubes and on his wheel...in fact he is on his wheel right now...when I wake up about 6 in the morning he is getting ready to lay down...I think that all hamsters stay up in the middle of the night while everyone else sleeps...as for the cage thing...my hamster tries to climb his wheel to get out...he isnt gonna hurt his self or anything...when he gets used to the cage it wont do it as much...mainly when my hamster does it is when he wants me to play with him...

He's acting perfectly normal. He's lazy during the day because he's sleepy! You'd be pretty lazy in the middle of the night if someone woke you up to snuggle or to play, wouldn't you?

Don't worry a bit about him falling down from the side of his cage. Rodents are AMAZINGLY well built for falling. They can fall 10 or more feet without being hurt. (Don't test the theory, though!)

got to love these little guys, hamster are suppose to be up at night and they sleep during the day they all do this thats just the way they are, as far as the cage goes if your worried about him climbing get him a one story cage, if you have one let him climb its not a far drop mine is a one story and Rascal loves to climb its cool they seem to all do it......Your Hammy is fine as long as he is eating and drinking and looks healthy he is all good. Good thing you got him a wheel they all need it, for more than one reason...keep up the good work

your hamster sleeps when your getting read y 4 school since its nocternal(sorry if i spelt it wrong). its like when its 8:25am 4 u its like 8:25 pm 4 it. your hamster will sleep while your gone at school and be up and active around the time u get home. and when your hamster stops running it might be getting tired. idk really but it seems normal. my hamster is doing that right now! my other hamster did that as well. idk. its just a hamster thing i guess. he probably walkes in your hand since he trusts u. also GET A NEW CAGE!! im sorry but this might lead to the death of your hamster. my friends hamster died of falling off the bars. its still good to get a cage w/h bars though. its nice to have the air circulate in the cage. try to get bars that r higher up so that he cant reach them. if you cant just get rid of them it might cause the death of your hamster.hope i helped

Rodents are nocturnal by nature. They are up all night and sleep all day. Your hamster is just behaving as nature tells him. He's not "weird" or "strange" he is very very normal.

I learned thre hard way myself, they're nocturnal, get used to it or get rid of it...Hopefully you have another room to put em' in at night so it could make all the noise it wants.
