I would say that if you want a movie that no one else will be likely to do you should check out Facing the Giants. It is a great movie with more meaning than any other movie out today. You could do a great paper on it because it is deep, entertaining, meaningful, and not a over budget fluff piece. It has no high paid actors. It was written, filmed, and the "actors" were all from a chuch and its surrounding community. It is about a high school football team and how a change in attitude and putting their faith in God made a huge impact on their lives.

Someone has already said it, but I'll repeat just for the record.
Just about any Alfred Hitchcock movie will do. Especially the movie, "Psycho".
Did you know that it was this movie that changed the way we pay for movies? Lots of things you could talk about, like the lighting, camera angles, the way the characters blink their eyes at certain moments, pauses between characters, props that give amazing clues to the story. The MUSIC, the infamous stabbing scene. The movie is dying to be analyzed. Please consider it.

It actually depends on what subject you actually want to explore.
For one of my classes, I wrote a paper on the movie "Titanic". There's a lot more substance to the movie than the love story and the ship. I wrote about the clash between the upper and lower classes which governed the entire movie. My teacher loved the whole concept and I made an A+. I still have my paper with me. Let me know if u just want to have a look at it.
Hope this helps.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Just kidding. Give the movie "1984" a chance. It has so much subtext and meaning that you could spend years looking at it from every angle. Even if you don't decide to use that movie, you should watch it anyway, it's an amazing film based on an excellent book by George Orwell.

"What Dreams May Come" which stars Robin Williams is a good movie to start with. Not only does it have some philosophical meanings to decipher but it also has cinematic and visual effects to write a review on. A similar movie would be "Bicentennial Man" starring Robin Williams(!).
Here are the rest of my picks, which have a variety of subjects to choose from:
"I Am Sam" (Sean Penn, Dakota Fanning)
"Somewhere In Time" (Christopher Reeves)
"Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind" (Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet)
"With Honors" (Brendan Frasier, Joe Pesci)
"Forrest Gump" (Tom Hanks)
"The Shawshank Redemption" (Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins)

The Sure Thing
It is a comedy, a love affair, a story of personal discovery, a story of creative writing, and the meaning of life, love, and junk food. It is the quintisential eighties movie.

Well there is, of course, The Matrix. Very cliche
one movie everyone has different opinions of is A Scanner Darkly.
But if you want some metaphorical stuff that you can rip into nasty little pieces related to history and the bible and all that good stuff
Pan's Labyrinth or Palindromes! Those are two deep movies.
Another one is Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas!

If you have to analyze a movie for style, I'd suggest any Alfred Hitchcock movie, specifically "The Birds"

Woody Allen's Hannah & Her Sisters.Another one from him is Deconstructing Harry.
Waking Life from Richard Linklater is a film full of philosophy.
Oh!2001:A Space Odyssey is one you can have a field day with.Ranging from Nietzschean tones,to man vs. machine,to evolution, etc. That would be my choice.
