For me a true friend is one who is true to himself/herself. True to me & true to the delicate relationship.
True to himself/herself as in he/she is my friend by choice & desire & not for the heck of it or just to increase their friend's list by another number.
True to me means I am accepted with my positives & weakness. Taken as I am.
True to the relationship---feels happy in it. It has to be mutual . If she has something in mind then she is able to say it. I dont want my friend to suffer in silence. It will mean that he/she is not being honest about friendship. He/she should not feel suffocated & if by chance it is the case then first effort should be made to improve the relationship.

When someone feels lonely and alone & cannot see any one around oneself, the world seems to be fading away, a true friend takes the person to an eye specialist!! lol
good qualities:
a true friend accepts you as you are, believes in you, gives you space when you need it, knows that s/he matters much for you and respects your thoughts.
even silence speaks between true friends
true friends listen to what you say but understand only what you meant to say
true friends make us believe that yes, we can do it. when it seems that we will lose everything their faith on us makes us able to hope that after all its not the end, its just the starting of something much more wonderful
bad qualities:
they really box you hard, they are the only one whom you give right to tease you and they do it quite nicely, they can be real irritating critics sometimes, they are the only one who laugh and help you you when you slip off a banana peel, they can do very mischievious things like painting your face with your favourite color while you are asleep (you might like that, lol) , etc etc etc

Out of all things, a true friend is someone that will let me rant at them about any subject in the world without interrupting me at all. Then will give their opinion of it honestly. Then will support me no matter what decision I must make, even if it doesnt match their opinion.
Plus, they won't tell anyone else about the rant, helping to seal the bond by keeping things between us.
That is a true friend. Hard to find, in a society who has learned gossip is entertainment.
