my exboyfriend & i broke up over a month ago, but we were together for 2 years & i cant seem to get over him.. were both 18 and during our 2 year relationship he was severely depressed for about a year & a half.throughout that time, i have done nothing but be supportive & help him cope through it & was literally his best friend, even when his other friends stopped hanging out with him. he was put on antidepressants 2 weeks before we broke up and now everyone is suspecting he is bipolar and that the meds stimulated his depression to switch to mania. he broke up w. me impulsively & then asked me back out 2 days later then broke up w. me 3 days after that..so as u can see its just weird?since the break up he has been OVERLY sexual active (hooking up with 4 dif. girls in 4 weeks) & then all of a sudden he just stopped.after he began taking the meds, his personality did a 180, we no longer talk, but i wonder if he is over me, & if he isnt is it common for bipolars to hide/mask feelings?

One symptom of depression is thinkin in circles. One constantly searchs for somthing to make them feel better or just feel. They grasp at memories of things that made them feel good and do it over and over..Trouble is, it just adds to the depressive state as it causes other problems. Manic is like being on speed (meth)..I am a bipolar and would love to be in my manic mode forever.

No. Bipolarism is where the brain doesn't control dopamine levels in your brain, so you have mood swings. Mostlikely, he had Seasonal Depression, and Bipolarism type 2 (A less severe bipolar, people who are actually bipolar are in a wreck and are usually manicly depressive). Well there are two parts to his reaction: A would be his defensive and coping mechanisms (In that he finds other relationships and acts cold or distant in order to deal with both his disorder and his treatment (and then separation) from you). and B. his disorder(s). Everyone masks thier feelings sometimes. I advise you talk to him and tell him you'd still like to be friends with him. Try to act distant as well, even though you are worried.

Honey, a lot of this is a CHEMICAL problem, and believe me, he is more confused than you are.
You should do whatever it is you need to do for your own good. But remember that his going off the wall has nothing to with how he feels about you.
And even if you can't see it that way,
then how he feels about you has nothing to do with your self-worth. Just making sure you know that.
Hoping all of the best for the both of you!

One of the symptoms of a bipolar person is to want to contradict the norm.

You can either Get out of it now a.k.a. "Run while you can"

Or

Just still be there to listen if he needs you.

i'm not bipolar but i have another "disorder" and this is what i went thru and i hope this helps and i hope it reveals something about you.
when i broke up with my ex husband i did it to go to another relationship. my therapist called that an attachment. i'll post link to the difference. anyway when i was in therapy i was prescribed meds to control my compulsions, and my rages. they worked miracles! or i should say "it"because it was only one medication. i still wanted my ex husband back, especially when he found someone new, but that was out of "habit" and out of my christian beliefs. we have four children, and i strongly feel we should have gone thru my recovery together...but anyway....my therapist to this day believes that my ex is NOT good for me. why? this is where i might offend you and i DO NOT mean to! but as she said, sick puppies attract sick puppies. the rule of thumb was to NEVER date anyone that i was attracted to before therapy and meds. because my "sick" self was attracted to that person and that is a red flag that that person is sick himself. for 3 1/2 years i slowly but surely agreed to this concept. but then i thought if my ex is "sick" how come he found his new wife. she's a bit mouthy and i didnt respect her butting into my marriage when i wanted to salvage it. but she seemed mentally stable. but i knew that the previous attachment (the one i wanted and left my husband for) was horrid after i got on meds. i realized he was sick and had so many issues. i never knew he was that unstable. even so i tried to make it work, thinking well my marraige broke because of him and perhaps i could just "accept" him for who he was. but the healthier i became the sicker he appeared to me. i was seeign him in a clearer light, a clearer mind! so 18 mos ago i finally called it off for good. and i havent looked back. as for the ex husband, he never wanted me back, because he was tired of living with a neurotic OCD mess and his new love was low maintance. i kept asking my therapist, how did he hook up with a 'well" woman if he is sick? she insisted he was sick, because by making the decisions he made and by being with me it was proof he was an enabler, lousy partner and had low self esteem. still i thought, he got lucky with her i suppose. BUT THEN IT HAPPENED! a month ago my sis n law and i found out she has OCD and has severe anxiety attacks and is on some heavy psychotic drugs!! i was shocked!! my therapist laughed and shook her head, she said. what have you been paying me for!?!? i told you!! lol now about your ex, well he now is getting well. and though you stuck with him, perhaps you stuck with him NOT for love but out of an emotional problem. ask yourself this, why would a healthy woman with a high level of self esteeem date a man who has sever mental disability? a healthy woman would have maintained friendship, not sit around "being" with him. and NOW still wants him back..please think about that! good luck!
