Al Ain, also called the Garden city of the UAE, is a nice quiete place located around 150 km away from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Al Ain is the birth place of the late Sheikh bin Sultan Al Nahyan who was the first President of the UAE and is considered central cultural heritage.
Al Ain has two major shopping centers. The Al Ain Mall an Al Jimi Mall. Rents in Al Ain are not as high as in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Also you will not find any high rises in Al Ain.
Fewer Westerners live in Al Ain than in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Most Expats are from the Indian subcontinent.
Hope that transportation is included in your salary package and you are not scared to drive in the UAE. Visit the well known mineral springs and Al Ain Oasis. Also get up on Jebel Hafeet the higst mountain in the region with a beautiful hotel on top. Streets are great, just get used to go from one decorated round about to the next. Al Ain has no beaches and you would have to become a member of one of the hotels to use their pools.
Of course you can catch a cab to Dubai and Al Ain but that will get expensive in the long run and can also become very uncompfortable depending on the cab driver. Some buses going back and forth, but you can not realy relay on their time schedule.
At least Al Ain is a very big difference compared to Toronto and Istanbul and you might feel like living in the country.

Hi, I am in Toronto too!! I have just been to Al Ain once and it is very pretty. It is also small and quiet though. I think you will probably want to go down to Dubai quite often to shop or just have some excitement. There are so many expats there are age so you should make friends.
It is a good experience to live in the Arab culture. I think it will be especially interesting for you to compare and contrast the Turkish culture. Also you are in such a good location to get to take some holidays in places that you wouldn't normally go from Toronto like South East Asia and Africa.

Hi.
I live in Dubai and currently am working in Istanbul.
Al Ain is about 125km frm Dubai. Its a "quaint" small town kind of place. Prices are not high, quite reasonable. All of UAE is safe, so that should not be an issue. I currently work in Istanbul and i believe that you will not really enjoy Al Ain! Night life is pretty low. But if you like mountains, hot springs and a good zoo, then Al Ain is quite nice :-) I would recommend that you spend the weekends in Dubai. That would be more comparable to taksim kind of environment with loads of places to eat, drink and have a good time. Al Ain would be like a suburb on the asian side of Istanbul.
The good part is: Cost of living is low; Dubai is about 1hr 15min by road.
Personally, i would not live in Al Ain...

i'm exceedingly optimistic just about everywhere won't hire you except you're a minimum of sixteen. Many places want 18 3 hundred and sixty 5 days olds, additionally. Legally, you are able to no longer and not employing a artwork enable. And yet, once you seem on the information of unemployed young ones searching for a job, there are various. And what employer might elect a 14 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old over a 17 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old? no longer many. try doing chores around the abode for money. Or cut back your acquaintances backyard.

Al Ain is a pretty oasis in the desert, it's quiet but very pleasant.
You will probably need to visit Dubai regularly (it's not far) to enjoy some of the things 27 year olds enjoy!

My advice as someone who worked for 10 years in the Arabian Peninsula:
1. Always follow the rules and regulations.
2. Do not get involved in politics.
3. Mind your own business.
4. Do not carry Canadian living style baggage with you. Shake them off of your shoulders before you go.
And one more very important last thing:
1. Do not succumb to the easiness of life or making of money and let years go through your fingers. If you are there for 2-year contract, think seriously before you accept any contract renewal. Unless otherwise it is 100% in your favor, do not sign it.

Al Ain is located in UAE, often called the 'Garden City of the Gulf' given the many parks, tree-lined avenues and decorative roundabouts within the city.. It is a very good place.
Welcome to Al Ain.
