Well, if you ask my whacky Catholic father, it means there is a group that hates Christ and the Church and seeks to rule the world a la Pinky and the Brain.
Or, much worse.
They are Gnositcs, which means that they believe that men can learn and know everything abotu the Universe, and control fate.
They believe that men are really part of god.
Now, mostly, these people draw spiritually as well as intellectually from a host of world phiolosphies and religions.
They do hate the church, apparently, but they also hate superpowers like the thrones of nations. They supposedly have a ceremony for the 33rd degree Mason, in which there is a crown which is thrust with a sword- or maybe it is a replica of the hat of the Pope, whichever.
Anyway, that's a good place to start.

Hello, I am a Freemason of the esoteric Order, American Order of Co-Masonry. Perhaps I can answer your questions from my viewpoint. Understand that it is only from my experience and in my Order.
First, Freemasonry is not a religion. We are a system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. Our goal is that of the ancient alchemists: to change the lead in our hearts to gold. We believe that people can work on themselves to become better human beings, can learn to work together, to learn to trust. That is mostly what we are about.
In Co-Masonry, Freemasonry for both women and men, we are not much a social organization. Many of us drive hundreds of miles (I do, 200 miles each way) to our Lodges, help set up the Lodge furnishings, do a rehearsal, do the ceremonial working, put away all the Lodge furnishings, and maybe grab a quick bite to eat with some of our Brothers. Then we turn around and drive back home. I do this twice a month for a total of about 800 miles a month.
In Co-Masonry we do raise money for charitable causes both Masonic and non-Masonic. Our Lodge has helped women's shelters, teen half-way houses, and even a masculine rite Lodge down in New Orleans. Of course if any member of our Lodge is in financial trouble, we do our best to help when asked.
Freemasonry is far from Satanic (despite what some fundamentalist Christians and Moslems will tell you.) Yes, we do sit in fellowship with people of all religions. I have Brothers (we call women and men "Brother" in Co-Masonry) of many different faiths: Buddhists, Taoist, Luthern, Latter Day Saints, Episcopals, Wiccans, Baptists, Zorastoran, and Hindu. I am sure there are Muslims, too, but I do not know any.
You may read many things online about Freemasonry just like you can read much about any organization of human beings. We are from all walks of life, all races, and all religions. It is rarely a secret that someone is a Mason.
I know the Most Sovereign Grand Commander and the President of American Co-Masonry. They are fine, upstanding women. I would give either of them a kidney should they need it.
Look at my profile and learn more about me if you wish. Write me if you wish more about Co-Masonry. There is a link below, also.
Best Wishes,
A Master Mason
