There's not too much wrong with your sentence. Maybe change it to:

The French Revolution caused many priests to be driven from France to the United States. Once in America, they assisted Bishop Carroll, a catholic priest, in opening Catholic schools wherever possible.

A lot of the sentence changing is interpretive and each person has their own way of saying it. I chose to split up the sentence into two sentences because your sentence was a run-on. You also said "The French Revolution drove many preists from France" which makes it sound like the French Revolution was a group of people, not an event.
