The only thing that is absolutely neccesary to tan is a pair of tanning goggles. Your eyes need protection from the UV rays, and regular sunglasses won't do the trick. Depending on the salon, they may or may not provide complimentary goggles. Even if they don't, they will have an array of goggles you can purchase. The last salon I tanned had reusuable goggles from like $3-$10. They also had this one time use weird little foil-like eye coverings that cost $0.25 each.

The salon will probably reccomend that you buy tanning excellerator lotion. This isn't neccesary, especially if this is your first time tanning. However, it does help you tan quicker. If you want to, you can invest in that, but those lotions can get pretty expensive. You can also bring in your own moisturizer instead, as moisturized skin will tan better.

That's about it. You can bring an ipod or CD player, if the salon you go to doesn't have radios in the bed. When I went to a crummier salon where the beds didn't have timers that counted down in them, I would always bring my cell phone and set the timer on it, to make sure that the bed didn't accidentally get set for too long and fry me. Then again, this all might be unneccesary if you are going to a nice salon, which I'd reccommend. The better beds are worth the extra money.

Sorry, I just have to say this really quick. Don't listen to the people that answer your question just to tell you not to tan. Way to be completely not helpful. Tanning is fine, in moderation. It's a much better alternative than getting a horrible sunburn from sitting outside too long, pasty white. It also can help treat SAD, and reduce Vitamin D deficiencies. Like I said, it's all about moderation. You're not going to cause any serious damage going in every week or so during the dead of winter, when the sun is never out anyways. Just be careful not to tan so much you get orange. That's definately not cute.

They will have the towels etc but you may be expected to buy eye protection as well as a lotion for tanning.. not one with sunscreen in it but one for tanning places. The cost can very drastically. They will explain it to you. Enjoy! .. mmm maybe I will go tomorrow....

Yes they will supply you with everything you need to start the process of aging skin.
They will not supply you with the creams and injections to reduce the lines and wrinkles you will get early in life because of exposure to unnecessary rays.

The sun is not to be worshiped and neither is the tanning booth.
