1/2 x 1/4= 1/8
1/8 x 1/2= 1/16

to understand fractions think about the value. so half of 1/4 is 1/8. an eight is half of a fourth. 1/16 is half of 1/8. can you see how this works? 1/4 x 1/2 = 1/8 the denominators are multiplied so the new denominator is 8. okay.
