It is never a good thing to turn it off.
It will slow down programs that run networks online, but we are talking about less then a seconds difference.

A firewall simply blocks unwanted traffic such as hackers. If you disable your firewall you won't have a pc system within a few hours.

If a application is LOADING slowly that is an issue with lack of RAM on your system and you should considering paying for some more memory cards.

So I've heard it does, but when my computer is running slow, I'll like check my McAfee security to make sure it %100 protected, and it is, and because of my computer running so slow I'll get off of it, just to be "safe" and wait awhile and then get back on, and it's usually back to normal, by then so ....I would just check your security center when its runnning slow and make sure all of your lines are solid green along with your dots! And if its still running slow then just give it a "Rest" for awhile.. then come back to it.. There really isn't much else you can do anyway, you know.. Smile!!!
