I have tried countless mascaras from Lancome to Estee Lauder, to Covergirl, Revlon, Loreal, Maybelline..U name it I have probably tried it..I really like and actually purchased today...Maybelline Lash Stylist..in very black...it has an unconventional applicator..a comb instead of a brush..which can take some getting used to but the stuff is awesome..It coats each and everylash completly and evenly..at least for me..My #2 choice is Maybelline Full and Soft...I am not a big fan of Great Lash even though it gets rave reviews..to me its awlways a little on the dry side...

Alright first of all: mascara (that's how its spelled) is a very tricky business. Please, be very careful, maybe ask for help from someone who has experience.
If you have contacts, I would reccomend going to a deparment store that has a cosmetics counter (or better yet somewhere like Macy's with a Clinique counter) and getting advice from them. Mascara can ruin your contacts and really hurt your eyes if it flakes off and get in there.
For mascara, you don't want low quality. What normally comes with low quality: clumping, non waterproof, dryness and flakiness, and weak brushes.

If you can afford an expensive one, I'd get anything from Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Chanel Cosmetics, or Urban Decay's Skyscraper mascara.

Do NOT go with the new Telescopic mascara, it's very flaky.
Some good, cheaper, drugstore mascaras to try (generally waterproof is much better quality, anyway):
1. Maybelline Great Lash Macara in Waterproof
2. L'Oreal Lash Architect in waterproof
(above are the two I use all the time.)
Other brands you can try: MaxFactor, Revlon, Rimmel London Underground, and Covergirl. Most are carried in drug stores (I don't know about your local ones, but ones where you're pretty much guaranteed selection are CVS and Walgreens.

Last, color. Colored mascaras, unless non-drugstore and high-end (expensive... like upward of $14USD) are usually not very reliable in quality, I would go for the black or the brown.
If you really want to go dramatic, go with black, if you want to go for a little bit more of a natural look and/or have light hair do brown. 1 more thing: if you have glasses, I would no matter what go with black mascara, that's just a personal thing, my glasses make my eyes lost with out mascara.

If you find that either you can't use or don't like mascara, try gently pulling the skin of your eyelid taut with one hand and taking a liquid black or dark brown eyeliner and drawing an VERY thin line directly above lash line (you can even rest the stick ontop of your lashes) with the other hand.

Hope this helps--Good luck!!

I love clinique mascaras. I think it all depends on the look you want. If you want length get a lengthing formula and volume for thinker fuller lashes, or a combo of both. I like black in color because it is more dramatic on everyone, but for an everyday fresh face try a brown or even clear formula.

Just one more suggestion: Lip Ink brand. It lasts pretty well, and is light weight, but effective. It also comes in colors, but I think black looks best.

Innoxa is gentle on the eyes, it would have to be one of the best at a good price.
