thanks for the answers i looked at his belly and it looks a little bloated what kinda of salt should i add and will it hurt my other fish

First, make sure you know what ailment you're dealing with. I'll add a link to the bottom where you can check his symptoms against ammonia poisoning and swim bladder infection.

If it is a swim bladder problem, add any salt without iodine - kosher, canning, pickling, or aquarium salt. This won't bother the other fish, unless you have some scaleless catfish. Use about 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons in your tank. Feed him a cooked pea (take the skin off first) like Gary suggested, otherwise withhold food for a few days.

Get those test strips and test your water. Chlorine, nitrates and nitrites are harmful to fish, and they do have the chemicals to detoxify the tank.
The salt you need is for Freshwater fish. About 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons. It creates a slime coating for your fish to help prevent parasite invasions.

He has a swim bladder problem.
higher the temperature just a little bit
Put in half a tea spoon of salt
feed him pees

check the nitrate lvls, maybe they're to high. change about 50% of the water. sometimes the fish will lay sideways when they're scared, my oscar used to do it when i first got it.

could be the food you r feeding them cause my puffer did spiral swimming and died cause the food
