I was very fortunate to have had excellent music teachers from 2nd through 8th grade. They taught us to read music and learn to sing a song properly without having ever heard the tune on the piano. They taught us songs from foreign countries, and sometimes in the native tongue. I remember learning a Czech folk song called "Ah Lovely Meadows", the "Song of the Volga Boatmen" (Russian), "Minka"(Russian), as well as the songs of Stephen Collins Foster. Do you remember any favorites?

Gosh, my friends, I'm sorry some of you have bad memories of your music classes, or none at all. No one should have bad memories of music. All my music teachers may be gone now, I hope not--but, Mrs. Couch, Mr. Pavlot, Mr. Kirkman, and Mr. Peeler, I thank you for having such a strong and everlasting influence in my life and my love for music.

Okies I clearly remmy having to learn " The Instrument Song" they class was divided into 5 sections:

and it goes something like this

"Violins"
The violins ringing like lovely singing.
The violins ringing like lovely song.

"Clarinets"
The clarinet, the clarinet
Goes doodle doodle doodle doodle det.
The clarinet, the clarinet
Goes doodle doodle doodle det.

"Trumpets"
The trumpet is braying,
Ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta .

"Horns"
The horn, the horn
Awakes me at morn.
The horn, the horn
Awakes me at morn.

"Drums"
The drums playing two tones
They're always the same tones.
The drums playing two tones.
They're always the same.

what else we learned The Ash Grove Song...which was one of my faves:
Down yonder green valley where streamlets meander
When twilight is fading I pensively rove*.
Or at the bright noontide in solitude wander
Amid the dark shades of the lonely ash grove.
Twas there while the blackbird was cheerfully singing
I first met that dear one, the joy of my heart.
Around us [as] for gladness the bluebells were ringing [springing]
Ah! then little thought I how soon we should part.
[The ash grove, the ash grove that sheltered my home.]

Still glows the bright sunshine o'er valley and mountain,
Still warbles the blackbird its note from the tree;
Still trembles the moonbeam on streamlet and fountain,
But what are the beauties of Nature to me?
With sorrow, deep sorrow, my bosom [heart] is laden,
All day I go mourning [wandering] in search of my love!
Ye echoes! oh tell me, where is the sweet [bright] maiden [loved one]?
"She [He] sleeps 'neath the green turf down by the Ash Grove."

I loved that song still do...the other stuff I can remember is the christmas carols like "Up on The Housetop"

I went to private school as a kid and we had music class and choir plus on some afternoons after lunch the principal had the whole school meet in the auditorium and sing until the school day was finshed

I remember doing a musical called "Bugz" in elementary school (2nd grade) and I still remember all the songs - Let's Have a Picnic, Be a Lady, Firefly, March of the Army Ants, and Things Change.

In middle school I took band for my music class (I played the flute). Some of the pieces I remember playing are "Gallant March", the theme song from "The Incredibles", "Cheseapeake Serenade", and "Montego Bay"

I was never any good at music class. I hated it. I was already a guitar player but I was stuck playing the recorder. The little plastic flute thing. We had an aptitude test and I ended up in the rejects section. My teacher was very abusive against all of us. Especially me as I had a speech impediment. So, I filed a complaint and she lost her job.

Oh, I learned this horrible song in my "choir" class in sixth grade about beastiality. The lyrics were "I bought me a cat, my cat pleased me, I fed my cat under yonder tree." So on it went through cats, dogs, horses, and it eventually got to a girl, yes it talked about prostitution. Unfortunately I'm serious. I also learned a song about a wino named Ruben who drank turpentine. One of the Thanksgiving songs we learned was how to kill a turkey. I had a horrible musical education and I am thankful everyday that I was able to get past it. ha ha

I loved music class. We learned the national anthems of several countries, and Christmas songs, and college songs like "The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi".

Here's a thought: I HATED MUSIC CLASS. The teacher taught us the worse songs, like "What should we do with a drunken sailor?" Arg. You're bringing back bad memories!

My gals a corker, she's a new yorker
I'll buy her anything to keep her in style.
She's got a pair of legs, just like two whiskey kegs.
Hot dog that's where my money goes,
she's got a pair of eye's just like two custard pies,
Hot dog that's where my money goes.
She's got a head of hair, just like a grizzle bear,
Hot dog that's where my money goes...
and about 10 more verses.
