This is just something that i have wondered for a long time. I am 20 years old and in college and i have believed for a long time that i need to work as i can now if i am to satisfied with my life later. Is that true or are most people who are in their 30's and 40's very satisfied with where their lives ended up?

Actually, about 85% of middle aged people are less than satisfied with their lives. A lot of that is because of financial pressures and the apparent upcoming of a fiscal crunch. It is very important for you to find the area which you are best suited for, and prepare, so you can be part of the 1-5% of the population that are financially free to enjoy their lives.

I'm 41, and I've never been happier.
I have a great job, good kids, and an amazing lover who is also in his 40s.
For the first time in my life, I know exactly who I am, and exactly who I want to be with. I've got the money and the time to travel, and I don't feel like I have to keep up with the most current trends in clothing, cars, and hobbies.
Looking back, I would say the 20's were the worst time... no money, no idea of who I really was, no idea of where I would end up.
My life isn't what I thought it would be when I was younger -- it's way better!
I can't speak for everyone, but I'm one satisfied middle-aged person ;-)

Each of us is so unique and highly individual it is impossible to reach a conclusion to your question. We all expect different things from ourselves, fluctuate frequently between being satisfied and not so much so with our lives and have highly diversified perspectives as to what our criteria are for being "satisfied" that there is no way to even find an "average" , let alone move on from there. This question can only be addressed on a person by person basis and even that response will change from moment to moment.

You have asked a debatable question. It probably be about 50/50.
