I am speaking from experience. I used to have horrendous periods. Your girlfriend should call her gynecologist and be evaluated. There are quite a few birth control pills that will make periods shorter and lighter. There is also the depo provera shot that is a form of birth control but is used for many people with painful periods. The depo shot will make her not have periods at all. She should take some form of ibuprofen to help with the pain. Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory as well as a pain reliever. She may need 600-800mg every 6-8 hours to help.
Honestly she may not feel like doing much of anything but the thing that helped me the most when my cramps were that bad is a combination of ibuprofen and exercise. See if she will go for a ten minute walk with you.
Good luck!

oh wow, you are the sweetest ever! I guess like everyone else said...Ibuprofen as it is a pain reliever as well as an anti-inflammatory..but they do have prescription medication for cramps...I used to take it I'm pretty sure it was called Ponstan...also a heating pad or hot water bottle is comforting.
I don't get periods anymore because I was put on a birth control pill and take it all the time(except don't take the little sugar pills, just start a new pack right away) haven't had a period or those awful cramps in probably almost 8 years. Keep on doing what ur doing and suggest these things to her.
Good Luck!

Wow, first of all, I'm glad that you're taking good care of your girl:) then let's do away with the drugs first(midol or the likes) ask her to perform exercise 2 weeks before her period( or exercise religiously), focusing more on the lower abdominal area. This could actually circulate the blood flow that would lessen the uneasiness that she is having every month. But I really think it would be best to consult a doctor to have her checked. But if worse comes to worst, have her take Mefenamic Acid(Dolfenal 500mg and the likes) this would help her for the meantime:)

I get HORRIBLE cramps. They hurt so bad all the way down my legs.
So what to do. Ibuprofen 800mg every 6hrs like clock work. Hot tea like chamomile. Hot bath just to lay in and soak. Also, limit caffeine and salt intake. Heating pad or those heat patches they help, too. Also exercise helps like walking. It releases serotonin which make you feel better.
Keep her feet warm. Not sure why, but it helps.

Take midol, use the bathroom, and then eat something light. An empty stomach just cramps up worse.

As mentioned get her check out by a doc.
OTC pain reliever, camamille tea. I found that rubbing the small of her back and over the kidneys was helpful. Heat placed there as well. My G.F. at the time said it was very helpful.

Maybe she should go to the gynocologist. The Dr. could be able to prescribe her a high dosage of Ibuprophen. That will work. It worked for me.
