I work in fashion retail in the uk for river island,
I am just curious, as we have had our stock take and have lost 2.4% through theft (company avaerage is 1% so this finding isnt good!)
What I want to ask is do you work in retail? if so where/what country and what is your stock loss percent?

I used to work in retail...So dreadful...It was a store for teens guys/girls our stock loss percentage was 17%...if you can believe it...so 2.4% i think is really great...To think we used to work our butts off trying to guard the merchandise, BUT you know some people are born to steal. good luck to you cheers!

Yes I do, as a manager, and previously an area manager. people are born retailers - out there trading and dealing and selling, other people are nerdy office types who eat sandwiches at their desks and play office politics. steer clear of those types, they have a superiority complex. 2.4% shrinkage is bad as its more than double your company average which would make your store one of the worst for loss. don't worry though, i bet at least 0.5% of that is due to till errors, (wrong stock codes being used, etc)

I worked in retail while I was in school. I don't know the percentages, but one day I caught a kid running out with loads of stuff....

Companies like the one you work usually have an allownace built in for that sort of thing, so I don't think that amount would adversely affect their profit projections.

No I do not work in retail. But, I am sorry to hear about your reduction in inventory due to theft. It seems rampant these days.

I'm a UK store manager; our stock loss percentage is 0.227%. Our targets for shrinkage are 1.5% or less.

I use to work at Wal*Mart. It is kind of like a bitter sweet job. There are its perks which are OK and then there are its... ugh. Let me not get into it.
