That crap hole of a website that you Quoted everso Well is Garbage, get a real source that knows more about the two and then come back with a more sufficient argument, Yea its The "Same Track" But under Two completely different layouts, Look at all the seats not available for the F1 race due to LACK OF ANY Sort of View..... Just a little common sense....
It was not until 2000 that another United States Grand Prix took place, this time at legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 2.606-mile infield road course uses approximately one mile of the storied oval, but in a clockwise direction. This is distinctly different from most United States motor racing, which is run counter-clockwise. However, it follows the general procedure of F1, in which the vast majority of races are run clockwise.
Here is where is gets good..........
The crowd at the 2000 race was estimated at over 225,000, perhaps the largest ever in F1. Michael Schumacher's win was his second of four straight to end the season as he overtook Mika Häkkinen for his third Championship. In 2001, the race went off less than three weeks after 9/11, and many teams and drivers featured special tributes to the U.S. on their cars and helmets. The 2002 edition was known for Schumacher and teammate Rubens Barrichello trading places near the finish line. Held in September its first four years, the USGP at Indianapolis was moved to an early summer date in 2004
I find it funny all you nascar folks, get your pantys in a bind if some one is different then you or does something that is not with in your realm of reality..
Everynow and then i enjoy catching a nascar race..nothing wrong with that, but to you extreme nascar ppl, its like Breaking the law, to Encounter something new and different then the norm... I cant Tell you how many Nascar fans i have meet at the USGP, its amazing they understand that now matter how you say racing its all the same. 2 or more cars at maximum performance trying to achive the same goal......VICTORY
Now take all that information and Go back to your trailer park and rethink your outlook on life............

And there are NASCAR fans that claim that NASCAR is better than F1 (like yourself)
And that's okay because it is an opinion.
But before you came storming over here and gave us your opinion, why didn't you try and do some research? Give us a reason to watch NASCAR instead of F1, make us feel like we're missing out on something.
Instead I just see the same facts that we're always given like that more people watch a NASCAR race and that the grid than it is in F1 is bigger and that NASCAR is stock car racing while F1 is open wheel racing (which your measurement prove).
You could have explained why oval racing is just as good or even better than road course racing. Told us something about the drivers that we are always told 'can beat an F1 driver anyday' and explain why that statement is true. Told us something about the history of the sport.
But you didn't so forgive me if I continue to see NASCAR as a sport which has complicated rules on who can instantly qualilfy and who must get a fast lap in to take part in the race. And as for the racing itself is no more than one big race broken into several sprint races through yellow flags/cautions and than more people seem to cheer when a crash happens than at any other point in the race.
And my favourite historical fact: Declared that Dan Gurney (an F1 driver) was stealing the prize money away from Americans even though Gurney is AMERICAN.

F1 cars require more technology assists because they're more demanding to drive. The reason for the transmission is because even the best driver in any motorsport could not make the old-fashioned-style clutch-and-stick shifts fast enough for the horsepower and torque being put out by an F1 engine. Same thing with traction control-- no other racing car puts out the level of torque an F1 car does. It's virtually impossible to control for any driver.
As for more passing, quite simply, it's much easier to do so in NASCAR than in F1. For that matter, it's much easier to pass on an oval track than on a road course. You can pass at any point on the track on an oval; on a road course, your opportunities are much more limited. One of the things I personally enjoy most about any road course race, including NASCAR, is watching a driver build/set up a pass. It takes a keen eye to spot, but it's facinating. And still, for all the work that driver might do over 3-4 laps, he *still* might not make the pass. An easy pass has no interest for me-- I want to see the drivers work for it.
And finally, to address the matter of outright speed: I have been to IMS (Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the non-locals) for many years and many events. I even put in a little time out there as a course worker. So, let me point this out:
Top speed for the NASCAR boys runs around 215-220 mph.
The Indycar guys usually come in around the 225-230 mph mark.
The F1 cars regularly hit in excess of 250 mph down the main straight.

i dont get how any oval racing could be more fun to watch than road courses. To be able to go around a corner at 180, while passing somebody, and unlike nascar, doing it without touching is way cooler. And, takes WAY more talent. Plus, name the last F1 driver to be killed while racing. Ayrton Senna 1994. How about nascar? Earnhardt 2001. And Nascar is safer? You nascar people dont seem to get that F1 is THE most popular racing series worldwide. You think it is only popular in europe. F1 is HUGE in asia, south america, canada, australia, and now the middle east. Its starting to slowly catch on in the US, but this country is too in love with crashing, "rubbin", and all of the other "entertainment" that comes along with a nascar event. Sorry, but that just does not do it for me. I would rather watch the world's best drivers, race the fastest, most technologically advanced cars around some of the most challenging tracks in the world. I mean come on, Ferrari or chevy? hhmmm. tough choice. This year in F1 is going to be one of the most competitive seasons in years. I know you dont "get it", but nascar fans should gjve it a try this saturday night. The australian gp is going to be awesome.

Hey crunch,
"let a NASCAR guy tinker with an F1 engine to make it faster..."
Step away from the crack pipe, buddy. NASCAR guys in bib overalls get 700-800 hp from 6 liters. F1 Engineers in lab coats get 900+ hp from 3 liters. No comparison.
If you love NASCAR or F1, fine. You love what you love. It's not rational.

You said, "F1 fans claim that F1 is better than NASCAR"
I am sure that NASCAR fans also claim that NASCAR is better than F1.
I am an F1 fan, and yes, I prefer watching F1 than NASCAR.
I have my opinions about NASCAR and their fans, but I keep them to myself.
By the way, this site is Yahoo Answers for Formula 1, and I wonder what you are doing here.
Perhaps you can't read. You certainly can't spell. Is that a NASCAR thing?

And WAY more crashes and cautions!! AND it takes them twenty caution laps to clean up the junk, because the BUDDIES you're talking about would run over their own mother to win. They are teammates until the last to or three laps, and then it's every man for himself.
F1 is where the technology is. Traction control, anti-lock brakes, paddle shift transmissions, etc. all started in F1 and found it's way to the cars we drive today. NASCAR is still using 70s technology wrapped in a pretty new car body. Why are they not allowed fuel injection?
PUT SOME WET WEATHER TIRES ON TOO !!!
Is that why road racers, and oh yeah an ex F1 driver ( who wasn't that good at it ) rule NASCAR road courses. Nice to see Juan knows how to play demolition derby too. ( Sorry Scott ). Learn to turn right.
THEY'RE MAKIN' ANOTHER LEFT TURN. THEY'RE MAKIN' ANOTHER LEFT TURN !!!!!!!!!!
And I used to really like NASCAR. What was I thinking? It's like pro-wrestling now. People want crashes and fights not driving.

To F1 fans: exactly! more technology=less racing.
They dont do anything for themselves anymore. NASCAR drivers actually have to drive the car, not mess around with traction control.
Did you read the question?
your speechless.
NASCAR is way better.
