I have a friend who I no longer want in my future. I became her friend when I was a bit vulnerable. ( I lost a very close relative) But I feel as if we dont have enough in common for our friendship to progress any further. I want to end our close friendhip WITHOUT any bitterness or petty fighting (It is stressful and childish) The only thing I can think of is to say I am busy/unavalable when she calls for us to meet. She may get sick and move on. ANY BETTER SENSIBLE IDEAS. Thank you very much.

Honesty works miracles. I had to step back from someone first thing this morning. It was the easiest thing on earth to do because that is what I wanted to do. The chemistry was wrong. (Actually with this person, it was virtually nonexistent.)You may be in the same situation. If the chemistry is not there with this other person, it will just be a drag if you prolong or drag it out further. See if this person can handle the direct approach and tell her as candidly as you have told us and see how she does with it. All you are doing is being honest with her, so you will also get a good read on how she handles honesty. I had someone this morning in Scotland who was not all that keen on Instant Messaging unless it was important, so I just clicked delete and let him pursue all the importance he wanted to, without me - but that is different. No words needed to be said. That solution was fairly straightforward. I stepped back to let him get on with his life. With your one-time friend, it would simply be courteous to let her down gently, as they say. I will send you some good energy to help you. Best to you, always, and I hope my answer helps you make it easier. Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old, and believe it or not, the most direct way is the right way.)

The busy thing is a good idea all my friends were on drugs and when I stopped I had to get rid of all of the ones who hadn`t died.. i can assure you getting rid of things that are bad for you is so worth it i have wicked friends now don`t do drugs and have a baby girl. The people you hang out with reflect on who you are. Ps I wish I read your comments you sound very shallow dumping someone who there for you she is better of without you

With a bit of luck she'll realise that you were only using her to make you feel better while you were vulnerable but now that you are stronger feel that her friendship is valueless and she'll go out and find some REAL friends who have a little more depth to them!

Be honest, and tell her that you don't think it's working out. Unless you think she may become a stalker, or be a vengeful type.

If you think that, then maybe it's best if you just reduce the number of times you see her gradually, and eventually she'll get the picture.

how do u usually see this friend? arrange a time to talk her to or see her and tell her you want to talk to her about your relationship. make it a specific meeting/talk for this...not a gathering of friends or some event to be ruined. tell her that you are stressed over the relationship/friendship and you want to limit the amount of time spent with her. if she asks how much..tell her you cant say...you are unsure of the future.
not going to be easy but its a start i guess. some friendships just naturally grow apart due to jobs/new friends/activities/marriage/children/move/lifestyle. peace

Just drop her and move on. Tell her not to bother you any more. Quick and clean. And stick to your guns.
