When my folks were married, my mom would sign her documents with "Mrs." X. X. Dumdum, using her initials but my dads last name. Once they were divorced, she signed as "Ms." X. X. Dumdum. I asked her why she didn't use "Miss" and she replied "Anyone who knew me and my wrinkles would laugh their a** off if they saw my signature with a "Miss". If they didn't know me, they'd think I was an old maid with a lot of test miles and I sure don't want that."
My suggestion? Use "Ms" as it covers both contingencies.

You are a MS. now. Miss is for the never married and young woman. Technically you can still use MRS. but you don't have to.

You are Ms. - not Mrs. because you are not married, and definitely not Miss, which is for unmarried and no children.

i'm thinking why use MS. and not MRS. i'm married yet I positioned that on only a splash paper and yet another instructor smirked.. i'm getting referred to as MS. Heather... i would not like being referred to as MRS."final call" at a preschool, perhaps at a user-friendly college it may be high quality.. yet why use MS. Heather and not MRS. Heather? i in my view purely opt to pay attention Mrs. "final call whilst i'm being addressed to as my husbands spouse.

I always thought the term Ms is for women who are divorced and widowed...... Or you could use the term Miss - if your using your maiden name...
