Hitler's Nazi Germany persecuted Jehovah's Witnesses and many were imprisoned in concentration camps. Their identifying badge was a purple triangle.[31]"Some five thousand Jehovah's Witnesses were sent to concentration camps where they alone were 'voluntary prisoners', so termed because the moment they recanted their views, they could be freed. Some lost their lives in the camps, but few renounced their faith"[32] During this time period, Witnesses also experienced mob violence in America and were temporarily banned in Canada and Australia because they were perceived as being against the war effort.[33]
Under Rutherford, membership grew from about 21,000 in 1917 to about 115,000 at the time of his death in 1942.

Oh dear...I answered once (that it was Gypsies, also known as Romanies), but I did some research and found out I had it completely wrong. Purple WAS Jehovah's Witnesses as the posters above said. Jehovah's Witnesses were given the choice of renouncing their faith and saving their lives, but many refused to do so in order to show solidarity with Jews and others who weren't given that choice, and died accordingly.
Gypsies/Romanies were also forced to wear badges, and were killed by the hundreds of thousands on the basis of their "race" alone. But the badge they were forced to wear was a black triangle, not a purple one--my mistake. Apparently many Europeans believed that Gypsies practiced witchcraft,

yes - it was the JoHos and has been referred to as an "Untold Story". Unlike the Jews - Jehova Witnesses had the "option" to renounce their faith and escape death - but chose to perish and stay true to their beliefs
