This is the science categoryt, so let's put some science in here. The food energy in a candy bar is rated in calories. There is somewhere around 150 calories per ounce in a candy bar. The food calorie is actually a kilocalorie from the SI system (abbreviated kcal). A kilocalorie is the energy required to raise the temperature of 1 kg water by 1 degree C. Dynamite has an energy density of 500 kcal/lb. So a 3.3 ounce candy bar has the same energy as a pound of dynamite (or virtually any high explosive).

While this may seem odd, let me add that gasoline, propane, and natural gas each have about 10 times the energy per pound as high explosives.

All this is because any explosive, by definition contains both fuel and oxidizer while food and gasoline do not contain oxidizer and use air for combustion. This fact makes all the difference in the world. Fuels are lightweight since much of the energy comes from hydrogen (the lightest element of all) Oxidizers tend to be heavy. It takes 8 pounds of oxygen to burn just 1 pound of hydrogen. Thus, explosives have much lower energy since they can only be 10% fuel.

The reason explosives are so..... err...... explosive is that the mixture of fuel and oxidizer allows the whole mass to burn nearly instantaneously. Fuels only burn on the surface where air can get to them. It is this very rapid burning that makes explosives effective. Because they release energy so very fast, they create a shock wave that does the damage. Such shock waves are almost impossible to produce with ordinary fuels. Explosives do have much less energy per pound but they release it much much faster than fuels do.

Depends... If you converted the mass of a candy bar to energy, say through nuclear fission of the candy bar, it would be a lot more than a stick of dynamite exploding (E = mc^2). However, a stick of dynamite has more mass than a candybar, so if you did the same thing to the stick of dynamite, it would have more energy.

The calories in a candy bar when burned by your body, give off more energy then an exploding stick of dynamite. Gives you an idea how much energy your body needs to survive, eh?

in accordance to this information superhighway website, the flexibility in a stick of dynamite may be 504,000 energy at the same time as a snickers bar may be 270,000 energy. The sweet bar has a lot less power, yet apparently like a sweet bar does contain more beneficial power pound-for-pound.

Use your common sense. Have you ever bitten into a candy bar and had it explode and blow your head into the next county? Of course not. Sugars have maybe 1/10,000 of the chemical energy per unit mass that dynamite (tri-nitro-toluene) has.

If both were either converted into nuclear energy through fussion of fission the more massive of the two would have more energy.

The would be the stick of dynamite since it is large and more massive.

If only this was true, our war department could save billions a year. We could kill the enemy with candy bars. You wont to see how much energy or power a candy bar has, try taking one from a fat lady or kid. Help Help, somebody please help me, did an H bomb just go off?

You are asking an energy question in Astronomy and Space.

Either way, probably not. I mean, that is so unreal. Dynamite explodes and destroys buildings. Use common sense.

It's true! I just ate a stick of dynamite, and I'm not feeling energetic at all... in fact, I'm feeling kinda tired.......
