if you get a new motherboard, you will probably need to get new memory, new CPU etc...

If you build your own computer you can get exactly what you want and build the system of your dreams..

If you go w/ dell/HP, you get what they build for you..

If you change your motherboard windows will prompt for re-activating assuming this is XP.... If you have upgraded windows that is..

Generally it's best to -rebuild the system from scratch, Or else changing a board only will do nothing if the memory and video card are the same and old ones....

Best suggestion, goto a local PC supplier and buy the "parts" one by one of the shelf,

Motherboard,
CPU,
Memory.
VideoCard
SoundCard
NetworkCard
Power Supply / PC Case
HardDrive,
CD/DVD/Burner
Mouse
Keyboard

The onboard Video/Sound/Network that come on new PC's are okay for office use but apart from that generally should'nt be used... The network is fine to leave as it's just a network card.....

When you buy the parts.. Simply tell him that you want them all to match and work... Dont let them try to sell you a $230AUD motherboard...... Start at the motherboard & CPU... then choose video, memory and harddrive... then get the extra's addons.... Case, keyboard, mouse, DVD / CD....

i suggest something like http://www.buildeasypc.com/ to give you a start

Also.... DONT buy another package PC like Acer/HP/Dell/Compaq..... They simply are made "for" the use at time.... They cant be-upgrade beyond Memory,HDD,CD/DVD....

When they break... U pay $230 for a custom fitted power supply.... & then another $100 if you want them to fit it...

Standard PC, pay $50 for a Power Supply, Undo four screws and a few cable clips and your done.....

Always go for a higher ratted power supply... 450watt & above preffered...

Depends what you want to do. If you want a decent computer for music, video, and web surfing just buy a whole new computer. Probably less than 1000 for a nice one. If you want an all out gaming computer then It would be easier to build it yourself. If you were to go this route then I would assume that you would not want it to look like a 5 year old HP! I would get a new case not just for aesthetics but also to make more room for fans and video cards and hard drives... Really it depends what you want to do. Don't go cheap on motherboards, you will only regret it later, make sure you ask an expert about installing them, some computer parts can't be touched by skin or they will burn.

if you upgrade the motherboard you'll have to replace the processor and the memory with the current price of computers that could work out more expensive than buying a new computer

You can't upgrade the motherboard in them, they don't use a standard format. The only option is to build one from scratch (you can keep your hard drive) or buy a whole new computer.

as inexpensive computers are nowadays it would prob be cheeper and esier to just buy a new one.. that way your set for another 5 years or do mother boards can be relatively expensive and that not counting the other stuff you might have to replace and upgrade wal mart has them on there shelf all day long for 499.99 nice models too and fast prosessors

On a Mac, shift/administration/3 takes a photograph of the exhibit. in case you press shift/administration/4, you may click and drag over the realm you want; the photograph is taken once you launch the mouse button.

its more experimental to buy a new motherboard, but cheeper to buy a new tower;;if you buy a motherboard you will have to buy the processor also;;;figure 150.00 to 200.00 for a new board, and 250.00 to 300.00 for a good up-to-date processor...now you decide.
