I have an emergency and I need to travel to Mexico by Thursday night. My passport is expired and I'm wondering if there is any way to get around needing it. Someone suggested I go to the Mexican Consulate? Is that a waste of a time or will they be able to offer me some alternatives?

In Canada we can get an emergency passport in 24 hours, not sure if you have that option in the US, check with your passport office, then the consulate.

Good luck

You cannot re-enter the US without a passport after 9/11. You can fly to Mexico but you would be denied boarding for the return. Can you get a US passport in Mexico? You'd need to find a US consulate, and it's quite a hassle. You can get a passport issued in 36 hours from a passport office in an emergency. But it's very expensive - cost of passport plus fees for the rush. I think it would be around $200.00 and you'd need to provide proof of need.

You only need a passport if you are flying into Mexico. Call or go to the passport office at your local post office tomorrow morning and ask your questions.

Actually there is nothing you can do by Thursday. You have to get your passport reinstated but even if you send it in as fast as you can, your still looking at a week. You can get into Mexico with no problem. The problem is getting back into the U.S.

You do not need a passport to go to Mexico. I went there about two weeks ago without a passport. The new passport laws don't go into affect until January 2008.

I heard that you only need one right now if you are flying in. If your driving you don't need one until 2008. So I would drive in.

you go inside a box and mail it to mexico, or try to hide on a plane or boat. of course, there's also the option of crossing the land border illegally. oh the irony of reverse illegal immigration.
