Um...I wrote a good one once on homosexual adoption.

My advice is that you find something like that, a specific in a major controversy.
Arguing about gay marriage is cliche, but there are many things associated with it that are still close enough to the main subject to be controversial, for readers to have an opinion about, AND original enough to be interesting.

Do kind of a spin-off on one of the cliche argumentative essay topics, like the war in Iraq, or war in general, immigration, abortion, gay marriage...etc.

Hope that helps. : )

I assume you mean an essay that has at it's centre an argumentative concept? If so how about -

Global Warming is not driven by man made greenhouse gases but is a response to the output of the sun that has risen sharply since 1974. Or

The doctrine of refusal to negotiate with ANY terrorist is responsible for the escalation of small regional grievances (often based on emasculation or infringement of honour or dignity) into intractable problems costing hundreds or thousands of lives.

Can't think of anymore interesting ones right now, if i do i'll pop back.

The ideas listed previous are good, but they are national topics. The best essays are related to you and your age group.

Students should be writing about whether schools should have soda or sugary snacks in vending machines, whether community service should be required for graduation, whether homework should be abolished or whether there should be an equal focus on art classes as well as "academics" like Math and Science.

If your teacher is "fun" you may want to take an interesting topic like "What is a better candy, Tootsie Rolls or Starburst"?

Argue about something important to you...somethign about society or politics or religion.

Just make sure that whatever topic you choose is something you feel passionate enough about. You'll do badly if you don't feel that interested in your topic.

That said, here are some possible topics: for/against religion, tv and video game violence, conformity or non conformity, sports, influence of celebrities.

something that you're passionate about, something you have a very strong opinion on, something you can write a lot about..

religion
politics- War in Iraq
Female President
the people in Iraq and their lives
abortion
