there should be a lever at the back and you can lower the right side down on a hinge

I am a Dell Certified Systems Expert.

Before you open your Dell Tower, make sure you are NOT on your warranty. If you open your tower, that can void the warranty. Dell will send someone out to add RAM.

Did you buy the RAM from Dell? If not, it may not work with your system, or it may cause damage to your system.

And, you will not be opening the Hard Drive to add Memory. Only the Tower.

If you need more help AFTER you determine your Warranty, I'll be more than glad to help you.

My Dell 2400 came with a User's Guide.
Instructions for removing the cover are on page 57.

you dont open your hard drive, you open your tower
look for the screws on the back of the tower
if you dont see any, take off the faceplate and look for screws there
