Yes, incense does smell good, doesn't it? But, it can also compromise your respiratory system. You do know that the smoke has to go somewhere, don't you? Notice how the smoke residue makes everything in your house black. That is what it also does to your insides. Continue to inhale incense, and you and your friend both will be breathing with the aid of an oxygen tank.

Well I have always considered it "LOG-SMOG!!" Just in "Mini-Form" simply because ever since I have lived in the mountains, 18 years ago, for 4 years, we always had to burn pine, oak, and cedar in our wood stove to keep warm in the winter's.. And well even though most of the smoke does go up and out the roof, some of it does get into the house, and eventually everyone in my family got "Bronchitis" from the "Log-Smog!!!" We all had just horrible cough's!! And were very worried about our (then) 2 year old son, (now) 20.. more than any of us, it was that bad!! His cough was.. Since then my same son, wanted to check out a "Novelty" shop that had all sorts of wind-chimes, and nic-nac's, and insence, too.. Well when he spotted the insence , he was a teenager, and insisted I buy him some, and I told him about the log-smog, and how he had bronchitis when he was little, and how bad we worried and he didn't care.. he still wanted it.. So, I bought it for him, and sure enough he came down with another "Horse-Cough", from a relapse of his bronchitis, and I told him, see I told you so.. Well he doesn't like insence anymore, since then.. He liked the smell at first, but it is a type of wood they do make it out of, just a smaller version, but it's not good for your lungs to breath this air, from insence at all !! So , just be careful when you burn it , not to be around it too close.. Or I would just go too those "Head-Shops" and get some oil's to burn instead, their much safer, and last longer too! good luck to you, hun! smile!!!

I actually found this out myself via wikipedia about a month ago. What's fascinating about incense is that it has been used for so long (churches of nearly every worldwide religion have used it forever it seems). A study done in taiwan revelaed that if you expose yourself to it, in ehavy doses (literally sitting in a room with burning incense- which some people do do) increases your risk of carcinogen exposure and lowers your visibility (obviously in that smokey room). More research has to be done since some flat out deny any sort of correlation between cancer and incense though. But as long as you don't burn it constantly and sit in that room constantly- enjoy the free burning incense man-

Majority of the scientific journals and medical publications that I have read states that they are toxic when prolonged use. They are one major cause of indoor pollution and can damage the lungs. The most dangerous ones are those incense that are laced with metals. Yes they do have some aroma therapeutic healing but only meant to be used on occassion.

Here's a link that would tell you all about the various side effects of burning incense:

And there are links to various medical publications on that page, read them well.

thats a good question since it fills the smoke with air. but since its not a tobacco product I would say no, probably not. ive been burning it for years.

just found this "Burning incense, popular in places of worship and in people's homes, could be a cancer risk." probably is you smoke out the room and stay in there with like a bunch of stick lit. not one over a period of time.
