Well my friend is giving me her cell phone when its her bday because her dad is buying her a blackberry(lucky) and i do not have a cell phone so she said she would give me one. However, She or Me doesnt know what to do about the SIM card. Ive never had a cell phone, so is there like a way to reset the SIM card or should she just keep it so shes not paying for my minutes.

Also, if she takes the SIM card, can i go to a cell phone store and buy another one that is PREPAID because i dont want to get into the whole contract deal because im only in HS and dont have a job.

THANKS

Hi,

Well, the first thing we have to find out is whether the phone is 'unlocked'. Quite frequently, phones are 'locked' to the SIM card that is in place, such that if you take out the SIM card and replace it with a pay-as-you-go it simply will not work. If she has T-mobile, she can call and have the phone unlocked (before she cancels her account). If Cingular, then it might be more difficult. If the phone is unlocked, then...

You will need a new SIM card. Probably the easiest route. You can buy a pay as you go SIM from Cingular and a few others.

As for the old SIM, just throw it out. No real need and no real value.

You can reset the Sim Card by finding the RESTORE FACTORY SETTINGS in your phone--this will erase all detail on the simcard.

However, the phone number will not be replaced, so if your friend gives you her simcard, then you're gon' have her previous cellphone number.

Sorry, you cannot use phone for pay as you go.
the phone has to made to work with pay as you go service.

all phones made for a service plan, are for a plan only.

Again Sorry !
