Has anyone recently had one? If so where?
I am currently living in Lincoln and have been told that I cannot get a replacement as they are too expensive, so Lincolnshire NHS don't do them anymore.
Has anyone else had a problem?

To Dr Frank - thank you for this info, I will see what I can do.
As a matter of interest I was wondering why you do not rate the implants? Do you think I should get another or not? I have had one now for 3 years and have had no real problems, but would like to hear your advise. Cheers

It is one of those post code problems. It is the first time I have heard someone had a problem of this type. Though I am not much of a fan of these implants and never recommend them, other doctors certainly feel they have a place.

I have heard of no problems here in Scotland, nor have I yet seen this restriction mentioned in either medical newspapers or the lay press.

It might be worth contacting either one of the more accessible medical weeklies, like Pulse or Doctor, or a national newspaper like The Daily Mail, which quite likes medical stories.

There's the implant that's like a bar which sits underneath your skin if that's the one you're talking about and releases a drug over 3 months or there's the coils. It might be a post code prescribing problem. There is another though which is a depot injection called Depo-Medrone which is one injection given in your arm and lasts three months. Being a Pharmacist I give out a lot every month. It completely stops your periods which some women like whereas others dislike because of the lack of control. Everything's back to normal when you finish it though. Your GP will have no problem prescribing it as it's not very expensive.
