I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla that has hit 99,000 miles. I have kept it in excellent shape, including oil changes every 5000 miles.

All I know is that it accelerates very poorly (just happened today), and the moment I take my foot off the gas, the car slows down tremendously. I'm really afraid to drive it. I'm taking the car to the dealership asap tomorrow morning.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong and the cost of repairs? I know it's asking a lot with such little information (sorry, I'm really worried about it!) THANK YOU!!!

Get going about 30mph and put it in neutral to see if it still slows down. If it does, it's probably dragging brakes. That would explain the poor acceleration too. Then you just need to get the wheels off the ground, and see which one doesn't want to turn.

It might be the parking brake, or it could be that the transmission is not shifting into the next higher gear. When was the last time you had a full tuneup per the warrantee? You must be due at 99,000 miles.

Happens to me all the time but I forget I have the brake pulled down because I park on a hill.

sounds like something is holding it back.try like the other dude said.get up some speed and throw it up in neutral and see if it slows down.if it does then check the emergency brake,it could be stuck,or the brakes themselves, could be sticking.

It might just need a good overhaul, or you might have something inside the engine. Could be anyhting bad plugs.
