Quit reacting to them and they will stop making fun of her. They are just playing head games with you to see you react.
If someone doesnt like a singer I like I dont act like some silly little kid about it. Whats the big deal?
Just let it go there are way more important things in life to drama queen over. At the rate your going you'll be burned out by the time you are 14 years old.

I've been in this situation one too many times. My love for music finds me appreciating a wide variety of artists & genres. I'll rock out to some of the hardest stuff out there, then nod my head to some rap, kick off my boots for some country, and heck if I didn't get a thrill from the Spice Girls ;-)

My rule of thumb generally is, who cares what even your closest friends say. I mean obviously it's important to feel comfortable/accepted by your friends, but with music (and many other things in life) if it's something that touches you in any way and something that you can just connect with. Whether it be on a high spiritual level or even just a go out and have fun level, then that's all that matters!

If you're friends rip on you for Avril, then they need to grow up. If it gets to a point where it aggrivates you then just hang in your room and blast "Sk8r Boy" from your stereo!

I know the feeling, in high school I got made fun of for what I listened to. Just tell them that it doesn't matter if Avril Lavigne is punk, rock, pop, or classical, you like her and they should at least respect that, even if they don't like her. Friends can be cruel, but don't be afraid to stand up to them and defend your music taste. If that doesn't work just be the mature one and ignore them. By the way, I like Avril Lavigne too, good luck!

It's ok to be different! Imagine growing up in a southern town and you're the only one who listens to electronic music. Sure, people called me weird, but I loved it so much. I wasn't going to abandon my favorite music and fall prey to the haters!
If your friends keep making fun of your favorite singer, just say "Hey, it's what I love. I don't make fun of your favorite music, do I?"
Besides, true friends respect you and your opinions. Just keep listening to Avril and just roll your eyes the next time someone disses her. Good music always reigns supreme over someone's diss.

Honestly a lot of people dislike Avril but there is obviously a fan base for her music too. (I personally like a few of her songs, but as a whole she isn't among my favorites) a lot of people dislike a lot of things, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't enjoy her music. Just ask your friends to respect your choice in music.

I do find that some people enjoy teasing their friends, (I am an avid fan of teasing and am much teased myself) its like a greeting for some people. In this case don't take it personally, (I used to tease my friends about their love of N'SYNC, and ended up being fond of their music yes I know its awful but I still love it.)

You say nothing... Personaly I do not think she is punk or goth and I do not listen to her for my own reasons but I would never make fun of someone who likes her. Who cares what they think! Stick to your guns girl and rock out to some avril as loud as you want!!!

She really ISN'T punk anymore. Not after Girlfriend. And anyways, just try to ignore them. I have friends who hate my music taste too. They just need to accept that everyone has their own opinion.

Well just tell your friends that you like Avril and her songs. Start making fun of another person that they like like ciara or hilary duff.. so they will understand.
