Not in tennis unless it go'es to the same amount of sets.
Equal pay should equal effort.

I personally think that women should play the same amount of sets as men. It shouldn't have anything to do with how popular it is, for pity's sake (the figures for popularity seem to vary, depending on who is yapping about it at the time, so that's a non-starter anyway).
Common sense dictates that this should be about the level of skill, and about how hard the players work. The amount of work put in should should be equally done and therefore equally compensated. It is way PAST time women got equal pay in tennis - and other sports for that matter - but we should have to do the same for it as men do.

If they play the games exactly the same as men, if not no. Why should they be paid the same for playing a shorter game of three sets whereas men have to play five?

Eifionrefail: look, pal. I am all for men and women competing together, against each other, at sport. I feel the urge to point out that it is purely because of moronic prejudices of men that we DO NOT have professional mixed set teams. To pretend otherwise would make you nothing but a hypocrite. TALK SENSE.

Ask yourself this..why don't league 2 players get paid as much as premiership players even though they kick a ball for 90 mins andthey may be on top of that league? The answer...they are not as good. They would not be good enough against premiership players. The same goes for women sport stars..they are not as good as the men so shouldn't be paid as much.
If however they were to compete against men and beat them ,then yes of course, but as it is ...NO.
Why not pay the over 50s Wimbledon champion as much as the men's open champion??He has beaten all his opponents too...because if he played in the open tournament he would not get anywhere near the final.
I don't think it's fair that a man who is knocked out in the first round is only paid a fraction of what the women's champion gets..If they played against each other he would thrash her..if you disagree, why don't we get true equality and have women and men in the same competition..reason.. the women would not get past the first round.
Can those who have given me the thumbs down please explain what is wrong with my argument, or is it that you just don't like the truth?
Shanya b and oostikuy..are you seriously trying to say that women athletes could come anywhere near men?
Let's take the best male and female sprinters..race them against each other..the man would be around 10 m ahead at the end of the 100m race. Men's world record is around 1 second faster.
The same goes for other world records..don't take my word for it the proof is in black and white..or are you saying these are made up as well??
hoppielu..Federer (to name but one) could thrash Kournikova with one hand tied behind his back..go live in the real world girl!

Equal sets it should be, with equal pay.
I thoroughly agree with shayna barbys point. i was the only girl on the school football team and it took me 2 long years to get on, despite the fact that i was better than at least half of the boys on the team. I will play in a mixed-sex sports team anyday, and i will kick @$$ just like i did then. it is stupid to complain that women aren't in mixed sex teams when it is men who have made such stupid rules in the first place. open your eyes and your mind.

It has nothing to do with the number of sets they play. It only depends on the amount of money they bring in.
Same with sports in general: football players are paid way more than handball players.

Bet you wouldn't say that if we/women posed half naked while playing tennis ( for example ) . Maybe we'd get more than men then (?)
