The human larynx rests in a frame of cartilage bound by ligaments and muscles. At the front is the thyroid cartilage, creating the lump at the front of the neck, known as the laryngeal prominence or more commonly as the Adam's apple.
Regarding the etymology of the term "Adam's apple", Webster's 1913 dictionary states that the term "… is so called from a notion that it was caused by the forbidden fruit, (an apple) sticking in the throat of our first parent [i.e. Adam in the Book of Genesis]" .

Cartilage near the larynx on the neck. The lump you see mostly on men's throats. Despite what everyone thinks, women DO have Adam's apples, they are just generally not as prominent as mens.

That bump in guys throat. They call it an "adam's apple" because you know adam and eve well adam had a bump in his throat that looked liked an apple in ones throat.
It is actually their voice box located under their chin and on their neck. it becomes larger as the voice box grows. This is why they have such a deep voice because of the "adams apple" or voice box.

Your voice box, that big lump under your chin in your throat. Everyone has one, even women. Why it is called Adam's Apple, who knows? Trust me on this one!

Medically, it's a lump of cartilage in the neck. It's caused by the larynx, or voice box, getting bigger, thus becoming more prominent.
In other terms, on some guys, it can be awkward.
But the deep voice is sexy.
